Questions and Answers

What is the HRC?

The Humatrope Reimbursement Center (HRC) is a group of dedicated reimbursement specialists who offer services to patients and their families wanting to begin Humatrope therapy. HRC services are provided to you at no cost by Eli Lilly and Company, the manufacturer of Humatrope® (somatropin [rDNA origin] for injection).

What exactly does the HRC do?

The HRC provides you with a dedicated Reimbursement Advocate to assist you with insurance issues, including establishing reimbursement sources for Humatrope. The HRC also offers programs that allow you and your physician to decide when to begin prescribed therapy, regardless of your reimbursement status.

How do I contact the HRC?

You can contact the HRC toll free at 1-800-642-2340 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. You may also fax the HRC toll free at 1-800-642-5442.

How long does it take for the HRC to obtain a reimbursement outcome?

The search for reimbursement may take a couple of days to several months, depending on your particular insurance plan requirements and response times from you, your physician's office, and your insurance company. There are many variables in the reimbursement search process, which is outlined on the next page.

What if I want to start therapy before I receive a final reimbursement decision?

During the reimbursement search process, you and your physician may decide to begin therapy before insurance coverage is in place. Or, if therapy has already begun, you may find that your insurance has changed and need a short-term solution to continue therapy until new insurance is in place. HRC can offer programs to qualifying patients that enable you to initiate or maintain Humatrope therapy during the reimbursement search. Humatrope therapy is provided through these programs at no cost to you.

What do I need to consider before starting therapy without a final reimbursement decision?

When deciding whether to begin Humatrope early, please consider that therapy may have to be discontinued if no permanent funding source is identified. Also consider that the amount of therapy you may receive prior to a reimbursement outcome will be limited. Please be sure to have this discussion with your physician and your HRC Reimbursement Advocate prior to establishing therapy.

How can I qualify to receive Humatrope during the reimbursement process?

To be eligible, there are a few requirements:

  • Humatrope must be prescribed by a board-certified endocrinologist/endocrine nurse practitioner.
  • You must authorize the HRC to conduct your reimbursement search and provide the HRC with up-to-date insurance information.
  • You must provide the HRC with current insurance information, both primary and any secondary coverage.
  • You will need to certify that you/your child are not eligible for certain government benefits; the HRC can help you understand which government beneficiaries may not participate.

What happens if my insurance company does not cover my Humatrope therapy?

The HRC will work with you to make additional attempts with your insurance company to request coverage for Humatrope therapy. This is called the appeal process. To begin the appeal process, you will need to provide the HRC with a copy of the denial letter from your insurance company. If the insurance company continues to deny coverage after the appeal process, the HRC will work with you to help find alternative options.

What happens once I receive my medication?

Your HRC Insurance Specialist will give you a contact name and number in your area who will help you learn how to administer your medication (injection device training). Once your designated pharmacy has indicated when you should receive your medication, you can call your contact to schedule an injection training appointment. If this is your first time for Humatrope therapy, it is important to receive live, step-by-step instructions about how to administer Humatrope therapy. Again, this training is provided at no cost to you.

Lilly reserves the right to amend or terminate Humatrope reimbursement services and/or the ACCESS Program at any time with or without notice.
